Ed de Groot, owner and founder of Edo Plant, also known under the
name of "Edo-San" or "Mr. Edo", started with Bonsai in 1972.
That year he bought - as beginning bonsai lover - 14 bonsai trees.
Then he started to visit every exhibition, workshop, demonstration
and bonsai specialist in Europe, the United States and Japan.
He was a personal advisor for the Queen of the Netherlands;
her father Prince Bernhard; the former minister-president of Spain,
Mr. Felipe Gonzalez; the Prince of Qatar and many, many others.

He is considered to be a Bonsai pioneer who was so lucky to make his work
out of his hobby. Never the less, he also made his mistakes and does not feel
ashamed of it. As his motto is: "If you do not try, you never succeed".
The European Suiseki Society started with his personal support.
Not so long ago he started, together with his partner Rahayu, a high quality
Bonsai Nursery in Indonesia. Offcourse to earn some money, some day, but
also to help exploring the Bonsai standard of Indonesian Tropical species.
Many times Edo-San is travelling. But he always tries to keep in a regular
contact with his business associates.
