This popular plant is cultivated in many tropical lands, often far from its original range, and in temperate countries where it is treated as a house plant. In the latter instance, however, it only flowers with difficulty. Tropical Bonsai. Often shows remarkable shari parts. Can be hold indoor without any difficulties, but requires a light and sunny place. Needs to be given much water and regularly bonsai-fertilizer. Be carefull with its hard needles on the branches. Prefers to be outside in the summer.

Boxus Harlandi Buxus Harlandi Ficus Ficus
The various species of Buxus are widely used as bonsai in Europe, the United Statea, and China, but less frequently in Japan. Shows a very old bark if treated correctly. Prefers a loose soil, with Akadama or other Lava granite. Many tropical species are used to gread adventage, with stupendous buttressed trunks, spectacular exposed roots sometimes as big as the diameter of the pot and aerial roots which give the trees a wholly unmistakable appearance.

Fairly well known and used in China and Japan, it is sometimes exported, but the European species are not widely distributed. It is a very lively and adaptable plant which grows fast. It deserves more widespread use. Syzigium belongs to the botanical family of Jabotica. The specie is widely found in Brasilia and Indonesia. It is a very hardy tropical bonsai variety. Good to be used in offices for example. The new leaves have a shiny red colour, later turning back to green. The flowers in creamy colour will appear on the bark of the tree, as well as the fruits, eatable after they turn black from green. The bark shilvers, so that the tree can look very old already after 8 years of training.

Phemna Phemna Azalea Azalea
This new Bonsai variety looks in its growing habit to the Ficus. But its leaves stay rather small and also the new leaves are not big. It grows slowly and as it can make many side branches it is ideal for a bonsai. The flowers are white, small and are hanging down in a floor stage. It is a tropical Bonsai and can have a lot of warm temperature. Azalea or Rhododendron is already used as a Bonsai for many centuries. In Japan, the United States, Europe and many other countries we can see Azalea Bonsai in a wide range of flowering colours, double colours, double flowers, etc. Azalea can have expansed roots, different styles and various sizes of leaves. The special soil for these trees, named kanuma, can give a better growing results. There are Azalea Bonsai both for indoor as outdoor use.

Tamarin Tamarin Murraya Murraya
The Tamarin as Bonsai is mostly found in Indonesia. It is a typical tropical Bonsai which means, that it needs a high humidity, enough water and a moderate or high temperature. It cannot stand any cold. In the summer with temperatures above 17 degrees it loves to stay outside in the sun. Only M.paniculata, from china, is quite well known and appreciated, thanks to being widely marketed. Remarkably beautiful specimens are to be found in Oriental, European, and American collections. The smelly white flowers and the special shaped red fruits give this Bonsai a special appearance.

Durantha Durantha Ulmus Ulmus
A beautiful specie, that many times shows balanced jin, shari and dead wood. The light green leaves turn into yellow in a light, shiny place; specially outside in the summertime. The yellow leaves attracts white fly, but thus can be easily treated without hurting the plant. It requires a lot of water. Flowering blue and having yellow fruits like wine crapes makes it a very popular Bonsai. The ulmus or elm tree is very well known as Bonsai. The deciduous tree is held both indoor as outdoor. It can be trimmed the whole year around and easily makes new leaves and branches. Ulmus can be found in many different shapes and can reach a remarkable age. Sometimes also known under the name of Zelkova.

Juniperus Juniperus Morus Morus
As an original Bonsai the Juniper mainly was found in Japan. It is only the last years, that we can also find this specie in Indonesia. Although the Juniperus is an outdoor Bonsai; the variety Meyerii from Indonesia can also be held indoor for a longer period. But should be protected from stark frost in the winter period. Different Jins make this Bonsai to a rare specimen in many cases. A rare specimen for Bonsai. Difficult to find, but if established as Miniature tree very easy to keep and let grow. Makes fruits very easy and produces many of these red eyecatching spots. Can let the leaves fall down at any time of the year after changing places, but recovers extremely fast. Loves to be outside in summertime but prefers to have a more moderate place in the winter.

Zanthoxylum Zanthoxylum Serissa Serissa
As Bonsai originally find in China and Indonesia. Makes long new branches and leaves. Can be pruned down even to the extreme. The branches have sharp needles. Produces easy a wide range of tiny yellow flowers. Very easy to keep as an indoor Bonsai. Little mistakes (Water, place, shade) has no direct effect on the tree. Together with Ficus one of the most easy "beginners-trees". Already widely known Bonsai for Indoor. There are species from China and Indonesia. The Chinese trees have single white flowers once a year. The Indonesian species double flowers several times a year. Further difference is that the cultivated Chinese Serissa produces more often yellow leaves then the harder in nature found Indonesian pieces. Likes apart the normal water also to be sprayed with water, that should be not too cold. Can be found in many different shapes.

Carmona Carmona
The Fukien-tea is a very well known Bonsai variety. It has hardy shiny leaves, sometimes with little black spots. The flowering is white. Small flowers at the end of the branches. Does not like to have different places to many times. Can be cutted and shaped easily and recovers quickly from hard cuttings. Must be controlled when kept as Indoor Bonsai and needs therefore attention.
